We are very pleased to announce the completion of our very first Fundraiser Tournament, The Chess Effect Fundraiser Tournament that was held on March 28th, 2021.
This tournament had 45 participants in 3 sections and raised approximately 850$ that was all donated in-person to the charity, Arizona Helping Hands. The 3 sections were Under 1400, 1400-1799, and Over 1800.
The Winners:
In the Over 1800 Section, a great comeback was mounted by Anand Chandra, the highest rated player with a Canadian rating of 2215. He started off with 0.5/2 but won his last 3 games to win the tournament in style with 3.5/5. The 1400-1799 Section was won by Roshan Sethuraman, who won the section by a full point after getting 4.5/5, drawing with Daniel Yan who placed in clear 2nd. In the Under 1400 Section, Purvit Patel achieved a score of 4.5/5 to emerge as the clear winner, starting 4-0 and then drawing with Arnav Nigam, who tied for 2nd, in the last round.

Purvit won this game, showcasing great technique and nerves in time pressure. His opponent also played very well, making only one major mistake.

This game was very clean, with few mistakes by either side, and resulted in a hard, well-fought draw.
Over 1800: Jaikrishnan Ram vs Anand Chandra 0-1
This game had a ferocious attack from the black pieces, ending in a nice checkmate, that despite his best efforts, white was not able to fend off.
